Raza & Beth Elopement in Big Sur from The Cana Family on Vimeo.

There are several wedding vendors that I particularly admire, and in particular, wedding videography is probably one of my most favourite. Over the years, videography has become an expense that most care not to spend when planning their big day, but I say "STOP!" Here are my 3 main reasons why:

1. Videography brings the story of your day and the beginning of your marriage to life - I often find that wedding days are a whirl of activity for everyone involved. Special moments, like the jokes your dad cracks in his speech, delicate moments of intimacy between you and your hubby, and the look on his face when you walk down the aisle, are all things that photography can capture, but with a video become all more real.

2. Over the years wedding Videography has turned into something of a work of art. I have attached three videos that are some of my personal favourites that display how amazing some of these weddings are, despite how simple and understated they may be. There are so many amazing videos that can be found on Vimeo, that sometimes when I need a pick me up I just head on over and take a look at some videos. Gone are the days of tacky home videos, and now you can document your day with someone that sees the bigger picture of love, warmth and community.

3. It becomes a keepsake for years to come! Whether your wedding is glamorous or is a hippie shindig in the back yard, it is important to have something to share with your family, friends, and children for years to come. Think of it this way: Having something to show your future children in years to come is amazing because it shows the foundation of love and trust that they were built on, the community that wrapped around you and your partner then, and most importantly still does to that day. There is something special about sitting down and sharing a finely crafted film that summarizes the beginning of your amazing marriage together.

I could go on and on and on about why you should consider videography for your big day, but spend a couple of minutes and watch these unique wedding videos, and let them speak for themselves.

Have a fabulous weekend loves!

WonderWeb: Stone Fox Bride

If you think about it, one of the first things that most brides do when they start the wedding process is go dress hunting. Some search far and wide for the perfect white gown that makes the heart go a flutter, and the knees go a quiver. Every once in a while I stumble upon something that makes those things happen, but for totally different reasons. When I first found out about Stone Fox Bride, through Sarah of The Nickersons, I didn't know what to expect. When I opened their website, it took my breath away.

I giggled when I read their slogan - Voted "Best Anti-Bridezilla Bridal Boutique" - and I smiled at their love for same sex marriage, something that I firmly stand behind as a wedding planner. It isnt every day that you find something so open hearted, and I love brands and businesses that make every bride feel special without all the fluff and grandeur that some adore. Don't get me wrong: I love a big wedding, with lots of details, and weddings that are grandiose, however there is something so endearing about a girl that can slip on a simple gown, hold hands with the man/woman of her dreams, and say "I do" surrounded by their closest family and friends.

For brides that love that feeling of intimacy, simplicity, and easy going marriage, there is really nothing better than stone fox bride. Their campaigns catch the imagination, inspire, and sometimes make your jaw drop, giving them that feeling of alternative that us Refinery Girls love soooo much.
Thanks Stone Fox Bride for being so incredibly unique. Cheers to you!

A Bridesmaids Brunch, a stylized shoot from issue II

We had a great day at Beaucoup Bakery setting up our stylized shoot, with a bunch of awesome vendors - including Delovely Creative, Owl & Fox Studios, Jackie from Beaucoup Bakery, Jewellery from OhKuol Jewelry and hair & makeup by Cassaundra Holt.

Putting this shoot together was a great collaborative process with Delovely Creative - I loved working with her, she is a genius - as you can see from the photos above! The creative process was great - we went back and forth with new ideas, and it turned out to be an amazing shoot! Cailyn's creativity really has no end!

It was a joy to be working with the whole crew that day - a special thank you to all of our beautiful models, Amanda Isley, Florencia Caula and Kathryn Schultz - it wouldn't have been so fab without you!

We hope you are enjoying the long weekend - and for a better look at this stylized shoot take a peek at issue two if you haven't already!

Enjoy!

Kyla & Ben at The Vancouver Club, captured by Jarusha Brown Photography

This wedding caught my eye right away! It's the perfect mix of city, romance and texture! Jarusha captured a beautiful day, at a beautiful venue, with a beautiful couple!

There is so much to love about this day; the dresses (bride & bridesmaid), the geometric wall, the classic car and of course The Vancouver Club.

Congratulations to Kyla and Ben!

Wonder Web: UTHAhats!

Today we are launching a new blog segment that we love to call "Wonder Web". Madison and I are constantly on the computer, for the majority of our day, working on various projects, keeping up with clients, and being busy working women. So occassionally, on your down time, you find joy in little things like: finding something new and interesting, fun and inspiring, or unique and radical - all while searching online.

Once in a while, when perusing the wonderful world of etsy, you find something totally unique, that sparks imagination. This morning I was pondering my upcoming trip to Sasquatch Music Festival, so being the smart cookie that I think I am, I decided to type into etsy: music fest wear.

Up popped UTHAhats. I will admit. When I first looked through their shop, I was astonished that someone had the creativity to make something like their intricate hats and headdresses. I have, however,  sifted through their collection, and am completely convinced that I MUST own something, if not everything! (I wish!)

I adore their smart marketing strategy, with unique photos, truly displaying their peices how they should be worn. Lets just say, that a momma in an 80's jumpsuit wouldnt look so hot in one ...... Or maybe that would be the next big trend. Who knows! In this world, nothing surprises me anymore.

Take a look, and check out their store on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/UTHAhats
